Frequently Asked Questions

What assessments are included in the evaluation?

The assessments chosen are individualized based on your concerns and the student's unique needs. The evaluation may cover areas such as intellectual functioning, academic achievement, attention and executive functioning, social-emotional well-being, and behavioral functioning. At the time of scheduling, I will discuss the recommended assessments based on the areas of concerns discussed.

How long will the evaluation process take?

The length of time for a psychoeducational evaluation can vary depending on several factors. Evaluations typically involve multiple components, such as interviews, assessments, and observations, which can take several hours to complete. The length of time also depends on the age of the student. On average, a psychoeducational evaluation may take anywhere from a few hours to a few sessions spread out over several days. It is important to prioritize the thoroughness and accuracy of the evaluation process to ensure comprehensive and meaningful results.

Do you collaborate with schools/teachers?

Yes, this is one of the reasons that sets me apart from other evaluators.

Obtaining information from schools is important when evaluating a student for several reasons. Schools have access to valuable academic records, including grades, standardized test scores, and progress reports, which provide insights into the student's academic performance and progress over time. This information helps in understanding the student's current level of functioning and identifying any areas of concern.  Schools can also provide information about the student's classroom behavior, participation, and social interactions. This data is essential for assessing the student's social-emotional well-being and identifying any behavioral challenges that may impact their learning.

Additionally, collaborating with teachers and other school staff allows for a comprehensive understanding of the student's educational environment, instructional strategies, and any accommodations or interventions that have been implemented. This information helps in determining the effectiveness of current supports and identifying areas where additional interventions may be needed.

By gathering information from schools, the evaluation process becomes more holistic and comprehensive, enabling me to make informed decisions about the student's educational needs and develop appropriate interventions and support strategies.

How soon can I book an appointment?

I understand your urgency in wanting to find answers that may help your child. Typically, consultation services can be scheduled within two weeks and evaluation appointments can be scheduled within one to two months. However, the exact timeframe can vary based on current bookings and time of year. It's best to get in touch with me as soon as possible to secure your preferred date. Evaluation appointments are typically scheduled on the weekends to avoid missed instruction at school.
